Dear friend of the United States and Panama:
In
1994 business leaders from the United States and Panama were
concerned about future relations between the two countries as the
date for the full transfer of the Panama Canal and the presence of
U.S. in Panama drew to a close.
This resulted in the creation of the US-Panama Business Council (USPA),
a bi-national business organization with the mission of
strengthening relations between the two countries and promoting
business opportunities. After fifteen years and one hundred and
fifty two programs encompassing 432 events USPA has generated
hundred of millions of dollars in investment. In 2008 USPA created
the Southwest and Southeast chapter.
Despite the world economic downturn Panama is one of the few
countries that has continued to achieve growth and in the new decade
is expanding its infrastructure including the Panama Canal and is
embarking in a new wave of investments and business opportunities.
To
assess these opportunities the Council is organizing a trade mission
to Panama on February 24-26. Details are presented herewith. The
number of seats for the mission is limited so please make sure to
register with time. Should you have any question please contact
Ambassador Juan B. Sosa at (713) 426-0554.
We
look forward to see you in the trade mission.

TRADE MISSION TO PANAMA
February 24-26, 2010
PANAMA
The Republic of Panama is recognized as one of the commercial
centers of the region. The Panama Canal, with more than 13,000
transits a year; the Colon Free Zone with transactions in excess of
$15 billion; one of the most integrated multi-modal transportation
systems in the Americas; and a healthy service economy that has made
Panama a destination for second homes, retirement communities and
tourism, offers opportunities to U.S. businesses that are looking to
Panama and its impressive economic growth as potential investment.
TEXAS
Texas and other states in the Southwest such as Colorado, Oklahoma,
Arkansas and Louisiana have a long tradition of cooperation with
Panama. The Port of Houston is one of the main partners of the
Panama Canal and Continental Airlines services Panama daily and uses
Panama as the Americas aviation hub. Texas is the most popular state
for Panamanian students in the U.S. and the Medical Center has a
close relationship with Panama. There are hundreds of companies from
the Southwest operating in Panama.
